WK09 STATEMENT

A Home within a home.   Envisioned to be a space discovered through the unlikely threshold of my bedroom closet doors. An idea of abstract shapes filling a loft-home transformed into exploring the public vs private through materiality, manipulating light and forms. The experience of challenging expectations remains in the final iteration when one walks through the double doors, but the journey in the space is more defined in two atmospheres rather than the loose subject of abstract shapes.

WK07 MODELS + LIGHTING

Image
WK07 Models and Lighting  Modelling with Pasteboard  progressing from paper models, my initial idea of the exploration of abstract shapes and ones interactions with it progressed into how a multi-leveled space can influence what emotions we associate a space with through form and lighting. Pasteboard allowed for the folding method of construction like paper, with its structural integrity produced a more stable and clean representation of loft design. The pasteboards core and its integrity being lost with thinner pieces disturbed the presentation of the idea, making it look rough. However creating curved forms proved to be effective by cutting guidelines and bending.  Modeling with Balsa Wood Balsa wood didn't work well with a folding method and pieces were individually stuck together. Visual representation of balsa wood effectively communicated the design as a living space. Same level of structural integrity as pasteboard however curved surfaces

WK06 MODELS

WK06 MODELS initial paper folded models of my bedroom 1:50 scale regular sketch paper + black presentation board used to represent general shell and prominent furniture of my bedroom.  following paper folding techniques an abstract tunnel form was created.  progressed to 1:20 scale, continuing the paper folding technique focusing on the double doors that open into my closet, i envisioned an unprecedented multi-leveled space with abstract shapes moving between the two spaces harmoniously. using trace paper and cutting up folded presentation board, i wanted to explore what it would feel like to be in such a dramatic space.
